Luke 21 : 5-11

While some people were talking about the Temple, remarking that it was adorned with fine stonework and rich gifts, Jesus said to them, “The days will come when there shall not be left one stone upon another of all that you now admire; all will be torn down.” And they asked Him, “Master, when will this be, and what will be the sign that this is about to take place?”

Jesus then said, “Take care not to be deceived, for many will come claiming My title and saying, ‘I am He, the Messiah; the time is at hand!’ Do not follow them. When you hear of wars and troubled times, do not be frightened; for all these things must happen first, even though the end is not so soon.”

And Jesus said, “Nations will fight each other and kingdom will oppose kingdom. There will be great earthquakes, famines, and plagues; in many places strange and terrifying signs from heaven will be seen.”

Daniel 2 : 31-45

Daniel said to king Nebuchadnezzar : “In your vision you saw a statue – very large, very bright, terrible to look at. Its head was of pure gold, its chest and arms of silver, its belly and thighs of bronze, its legs of iron, its feet partly of iron and partly of baked clay.”

“As you watched, a rock cut from a mountain but not by human hands, struck the statue on its feet of iron and clay, smashing them. All at once the iron, clay, bronze, silver, and gold crumbled into pieces as fine as chaff on the threshing floor in summer. The wind swept them off and not a trace was left. But the rock that struck the statue became a great mountain that filled the whole earth.”

“That was the dream. Now the interpretation. You, o king, are king of kings, to whom God of heaven has given dominion, strength, power, and glory, and into whose hand He has placed humankind, the beasts of the field and the birds of the air, making you ruler over them. You are that head of gold.”

“After you, another kingdom inferior to yours will rise. Then a third kingdom of bronze will rule the whole world. Last shall be a fourth kingdom strong as iron and just as iron breaks and crushes everything else, so will it break and smash all the others.”

“The partly-clay and partly-iron feet and toes mean that it will be a divided kingdom; yet it will have some strength of iron, just as you saw iron mixed with clay. And as the toes were partly iron and partly clay, the kingdom will be partly strong and partly weak. Just as you saw the iron mixed with baked clay, the people will be a mixture but will not remain united, any more than iron mixes with clay.”

“In the time of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom never to be destroyed or delivered up to another people. It will crush all those kingdoms and put an end to them. And it will endure forever. This is the meaning of your vision of a rock cut from a mountain not by human hands, the rock which struck the statue and broke into pieces the iron, bronze, clay, silver, and gold. The great God has shown the king what will happen in the future. The dream is true and its interpretation reliable.”

On the Future Canonisation of Blessed Pope John XXIII and Blessed Pope John Paul II

The two great Popes of the last century, both of whom had been recognised as Blessed, through the virtues of their life and miracles attributed to them, will be declared Saints, in a ceremony likely to be scheduled at the end of this year (2013).

Both Blessed Pope John XXIII and Blessed Pope John Paul II, who was made a Blessed just two years ago on 1 May 2011, had each left their incredible and remarkable footprint in the path of history, both in the history of the Church, and in the history of the world and mankind.

Blessed Pope John XXIII was known to be a great man of peace, and above all things seek to embrace peace and cooperation, between mankind, and also begun the process of Ecumenism in order to reunite the divided fragments of God’s Church back into the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church that is our Church.

He was also known for his Encyclical Pacem in Terris (Peace on earth), which was released just months after the world was almost engulfed in an all-out nuclear war between the two superpowers, the United States of America (USA) and the Soviet Union (USSR) during the height of the Cold War in the Cuban Missile Crisis. Blessed Pope John XXIII worked hard ceaselessly to promote peace between the parties in conflict, for the good of all mankind, all of whom are the children of the same one God.

Blessed Pope John XXIII also convoked the Second Vatican Council, which brought the Church in line with the developments in the world, and also to make the Church more relevant in the increasingly rapid new developments in our world, and the rise of apathy towards religion in general. He would pass away before the Council was completed, but his legacy continued on until today.

Blessed Pope John Paul II ‘the Great’ was a well-known Pope, a Pope of youths, and a hardworking Pope, who travelled around the world to visit all the flocks of the Lord that had been entrusted to him as the Successor of St. Peter the Apostle, as the Vicar of Christ. He was instrumental in the end of Communism in Eastern Europe, ending persecutions against the people of the faith, and also open boundaries and barriers that had been long in place since the beginning of the Cold War.

Blessed Pope John Paul II has also renewed the zeal for the faith amongst many around the world, and especially in youths, to whom he dedicated a special event, the World Youth Day, in order to commemorate the faith, particularly amongst the youths of the faith, around the globe. He inspired many through his works, his Encyclicals, and especially his perseverance despite being troubled with a worsening Parkinson’s disease condition, that made him to labour until his passing on 2 April 2005.

Both Popes had been very influential, hardworking, and very holy leaders of the One Church of the Lord Jesus Christ, and they had done much to strengthen the faith and the Church, and bring God closer to many, bringing them closer to salvation.

I hope to soon be able to ask for the intercessions of Pope St. John XXIII and Pope St. John Paul II the Great, and I pray that they will intercede for us sinners around the world, and pray for us, till we are greeted by them at the doors of heaven when it is time for us to be with the Lord again. Now we wait for the official announcement on the date of the Canonisation.

Future title of Pope Benedict XVI after his retirement : Bishop Emeritus of Rome

It has been determined indeed that Pope Benedict XVI upon his retirement from the Papacy effective 28 February 2013 at 8.00 pm Rome time, he will still be called “Your Holiness” as he is now, and he will retain the title “Benedict XVI”, which is his chosen regnal name, and hence, he will be called, “Your Holiness Benedict XVI”.

He will also, like all other diocesan bishops, who once retired, take up the name Bishop/Archbishop Emeritus of his diocesan see, thus, Pope Benedict XVI, as the Pope, the Bishop of Rome, will also be known simply as the Bishop Emeritus of Rome.

What do I think about this? Well, after 28 February 2013, Pope Benedict XVI indeed will be no longer our Pope, but in effect, he never actually completely relinquish the Papacy, just as all other retired bishops remain as bishops and can remain active if they choose to do so, therefore the Pope too, even though not officially our Pope anymore, but our respect to him will always remain the same, and we will always remember him as our beloved Pope, who had done so much for the good of the Church.

He has chosen a quiet life in retirement and prayer, and dedicated himself fully to God, which is truly a noble choice, setting himself aside that someone else with the potential and vigour to step in and make the Church, which he had made good, becomes even better in the future.

The Church and our Faith, with the Social Media, for New Evangelisation

Yes, the social media can be a great tool for evangelisation, and also for the spreading of the good works of the Lord, which through our hands and our effort, we can make God’s power manifest in our world.

Let us strengthen our faith by sharing it with one another through the social media, and use it as a proper platform to gain attention to those who are especially in need of help.

Youths are the future of the Church, and we have to make sure that all Catholic and indeed all Christian youths, to be protected from the evil influences on the social media, simply by ensuring that they are also exposed to good influences of the Church through the same social media.
